Beat the Heat: How to Make the Most of Summer in Dubai
The United Arab Emirates is an exciting and vibrant country, but summers in Dubai can be extremely hot. Temperatures soar to an average high of 41°C (106°F) during the peak months of June and July, and stay hot right through to mid-September. Surviving the scorching summer in comfort requires some simple preparation. Here’s how to make the most of your summer in Dubai:
Stay Hydrated
Drinking plenty of fluids is essential when taking on Dubai’s hot weather. Invest in a reusable water bottle and keep it close at hand wherever you go. Stock up on juices, water, and other hydrating drinks to keep your energy levels balanced and dehydration at bay.
Keep Cool Indoors
Take advantage of the city’s many air-conditioned building, museums, malls and shopping centers when the temperature outdoors becomes unbearable. Spending time inside these cooler areas gives you an opportunity to enjoy local restaurants and attractions, or simply catch your breath in a pleasant environment.
Catch Some Shade
Stay away from direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day from 12pm to 4pm and seek out some shade wherever possible. Try spending the hotter hours of the day near designated play areas for children, where trees are often planted for the purpose of creating shade. Parks, beaches, pedestrian malls and other similar venues are also perfect for providing relief from the sun.
Slip, Slop and Slap
Whenever you’re taking a break from the cool indoors and popping out for a bit of fresh air, don’t forget to slip on a loose-fitting, lightweight shirt and trousers, slop on some sunscreen, and slap on a wide-brimmed hat. Long minutes out in the sun can result in severe sunburn if you’re not adequately protected.
Take Advantage of the Nightlife
Head out after dark and make the most of Dubai’s legendary nightlife. There are dozens of bars, clubs, restaurants and other attractions that come alive once the heat of the day has gone. So, pick up a date and make your way to some of Dubai’s top venues for a night that you’ll never forget.
Dubai summers can be intense, but by making a few smart preparations, you can enjoy your time in the city without having to worry about the heat. Stay cool and have fun!
