Beating the Heat: Tips for Surviving Dubai’s Scorching Summers
Each year, thousands of tourists flock to the United Arab Emirates for its sunny skies, pristine beaches, and cutting-edge cityscapes. Unfortunately, this also coincides with Dubai’s scorching summers, which can reach peaks of 50°C (122°F). What’s a tourist to do? Here are some tips to help you beat the heat:
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Dehydration can happen quickly in Dubai’s hot climate and can cause fatigue, cramps, and other ailments. Always bring bottled water with you and drink it regularly. This is especially important if you plan on heading out into the desert as temperatures reach higher highs there.
Dress Lightly & Appropriately
Choose light-colored clothing made out of natural fibers while in Dubai. Heavy and dark fabrics will absorb the sun’s heat, making you even warmer. Plus, avoid tank tops and short shorts as Dubai is home to some very conservative cultures and etiquette must always be respected.
Choose Every Activity Carefully
During the summer months, long walks and outdoor explorations are best done in the early mornings and late evenings, when the sun isn’t shining so brightly. Opt for indoor activities such as hopping from air-conditioned mall to air-conditioned mall or visit the incredible indoor Ski Dubai instead.
Keep your Skin Safe
Always remember to apply sunscreen when facing harsh summer temperatures. Not necessarily just for safety reasons but also out of respect for the local cultures and their customs. Most importantly, wear a hat to keep your head and neck area shaded at all times.
Climate Control in Your Bedroom
If you’ve opted to rent a place while in Dubai, make sure you have air conditioning in your bedroom and that it’s functional and working. Sleeping without it during the hot summer months can be unbearable and potentially dangerous.
Surviving and exploring Dubai during the summer months doesn’t have to be an ordeal if you heed these few simple guidelines. Keep these tips in mind and you’ll have a great time and make the most of your summer trip.
