2. How has the extremely hot weather in Dubai affected the local population?

The End of a Seemingly Endless Summer in Dubai

The heat and humidity of a seemingly never-ending summer in Dubai have been relentless this year. Temperatures in August averaged a whooping 42 degrees Celsius (107.6 Fahrenheit) — one of the hottest months ever recorded in the city. But the end is finally here.

The hot season in the United Arab Emirates usually starts in April and ends in October and this year has been no exception. Temperatures in April were already high, reaching an average of 29 degrees Celsius (84.2°F). As the summer advanced, they further increased, reaching as high as 48°C (118°F) in certain parts of the city.

Weather Outlook for the Remainder of 2019

Climate forecasters are predicting cooler temperatures and more rain for the rest of 2019 in Dubai. In September, temperatures are expected to decline to a milder 29–34°C (84.2–93.2°F). By October, the weather should become quite mild, with average high temperatures ranging from 23–29°C (73.4–84.2°F).

Rain in the winter season (October-March) is also expected to be higher than usual. In fact, the National Centre for Meteorology & Seismology is predicting that Dubai will experience two to three times higher levels of rain than normal this winter.

A Refreshing Change from the Seemingly Endless Summer

The cooler temperatures and higher levels of rain will be a welcome relief from the seemingly never-ending summer. The mild weather of the winter season is ideal for outdoor activities such as camping and visits to local attractions, making it the perfect time for tourists to visit Dubai.

In addition, the cooler weather also helps to reduce the humidity in the air, making it more pleasant to be outdoors. At the same time, higher levels of rainfall mean that the city’s rivers, lakes and reservoirs can be replenished—a great benefit to the local ecosystem.

Enjoying the mild Winter Months

The mild winter months in Dubai provide perfect occasions to explore the city and its many attractions. From the beautiful beaches to the exciting cultural events and festivals, there is plenty to see and do during this time.

To make the most of your time in Dubai during the winter months, here are a few tips:

  • Be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat as the sun can be quite harsh, even when temperatures are slightly lower
  • Go for a walk to enjoy the cooler weather and impress yourself with the multitude of activities available.
  • Check out local attractions such as the historical city of Al Ain and the mountains of Musandam for breathtaking views.
  • Visit the beautiful beaches and enjoy the cooler temperatures in the evening.
